What We Do Before the First Plank Goes Down
LVP is a floating floor in most installations, which makes it less forgiving of a bad substrate than people expect. Three steps happen on every job.
Moisture Testing the Slab
Concrete releases moisture long after the surface looks dry. We test before ordering, because a high reading changes the underlayment, the adhesive if any, and sometimes the product. It also protects the manufacturer warranty, which almost always requires documented moisture conditions.
Grinding and Leveling
Floating LVP telegraphs whatever is beneath it. High spots create flex and eventually broken locking edges; low spots create hollow, drummy sections underfoot. We grind the highs and fill the lows to the manufacturer's flatness spec before installation, not after somebody complains.
Underlayment and Vapor Barrier
On a Florida slab we use an underlayment with a built-in vapor barrier even when the manufacturer says it is optional, because slab vapor transmission is the most common cause of failure in this climate.
This is the step most low bids leave out, and it is the step the floor lives or dies on. A waterproof plank over an untested, uneven slab still fails; it just fails later, after the installer has cashed the check.

Total plank thickness gets marketed; wear layer thickness is what determines how the floor looks in ten years. Households with dogs, kids, or heavy traffic should be looking at a heavier wear layer, and we will tell you where the line is for your house rather than upselling past it.
Waterproof Is Not the Same as Waterproof Installation
A waterproof plank sitting over an untested slab, or installed without proper expansion gaps at the perimeter, still fails. The product's rating and the installation's integrity are two different things.
